My 2008 Infiniti G37 S: A Distinctive Ride

Introduction

Let me take you on a journey through my experience with my exceptional 2008 Infiniti G37 S, which I purchased new in January 2009. A car that has stood the test of time, I am the sole owner and have meticulously maintained it. With careful attention to detail, I have ensured it remains in top condition, ready to impress anyone who lays eyes on it.

Condition and Aesthetics

The car is totally stock and has never been modified, though numerous options for tuning exist. One notable upgrade I made was the replacement of the factory cat-back exhaust in 2018, which had started to rattle. The new unit provides a deeper tone that enhances the driving experience. Despite the blemishes on the body from 16 years of parking in L.A., it still presents beautifully, especially with its rare Amethyst Graphite color that garners regular compliments.

Driving Experience

Equipped with a naturally aspirated Japanese V6 engine and a stick shift, this Infiniti is becoming increasingly rare. The exhilarating drive it offers is characterized by a 7500 RPM redline that pushes you into your seat without overwhelming power—ideal for navigating the streets of Los Angeles. Its classy luxury interior contributes to the overall experience, offering just the right amount of tech without the incessant beeping associated with many new cars. The leather seats and classic ashtrays enhance the luxurious yet nostalgic feel.

Recent Maintenance and Upgrades

Recently, I invested a hefty sum to address a common gallery gasket failure issue found in G37s from this era, which can lead to a loss of oil pressure. I spent $6,000 to ensure this was thoroughly resolved, including replacing the gasket, along with new timing sprockets and chains, a new water pump, and a serpentine belt. Documentation for this work will be included with the purchase, and it boasts a warranty from the dealership until January 2026.

I also replaced the air intake tubes and the top radiator hose, and I have silicone heater hoses and an OEM fuel damper that will be included in the sale. The new O’Reilly Platinum battery will last until January 2025, ensuring reliability in the future.

Interior and Functional Features

The interior of the car is in excellent condition, save for the factory driver’s floor mat, which has seen better days but is saved. Everything functions as intended, except for the driver seat memory buttons and one tire pressure monitor. As a result, the tire pressure light remains illuminated. Other features include a sunroof and Ventus V12 tires with approximately 6,000 miles on them—providing better performance than previous Potenza tires I’ve used.

In terms of maintenance, the rotors are slightly squeaky and could be replaced at the next brake change. This squeaking happens approximately every 5 or 6 years due to the car’s large performance brakes. New rotors are generally more economical than resurfacing, provided you don’t tackle this job yourself.

It’s worth noting that while the passenger mirror cover was replaced, it was not painted to match; however, its appearance is not jarring.

A Clear Title and Accident History

Although the Carfax report shows three owners, I want to clarify that this is not accurate. I moved out of state for a year and registered my beloved car there before returning to L.A. and re-registering it; hence the three registrations are all attributable to me. There was also a minor accident reported many years ago, which only affected the rear bumper cover—no structural damage occurred to the car.

I bought this car new in January 2009. I’m the only owner and carefully maintained this car. Totally stock, never modified, although many options for tuning are available. The cat-back exhaust replaced a rattling factory unit in 2018, it is slightly deeper in tone, sounds great. Very clean, washed and waxed religiously, the body has plenty of blemishes from 16 years parking in L.A. overall presents nicely with rare Amethyst Graphite color; I still get compliments regularly!

Naturally aspirated Japanese V6 with stick is growing in scarcity. Super fun to drive, 7500 red line, pushes you into your seat but not overly powerful for the likes of L.A. streets. Classy luxury interior, not too much tech, it won’t beep all the time like new cars. Leather seats. Ash trays front and back!

Recently had a lot of work done on it. All G37’s from this time had a gallery gasket failure problem causing a loss of oil pressure. I spent $6k getting it fully taken care just a few months ago, including the gasket, new timing sprockets and chains, new water pump. new serpentine belt as well. Documentation for this work will be included, has repairs warranty from dealership until January 2026. I just replaced the air intake tubes and top radiator hose myself. I have silicone heater hoses set and oem fuel damper which will be included. New O’reilley Platinum battery January 2025.

Runs great, interior is spotless save for the factory driver floor mat which is shredded, but I kept it. Everything works except for the driver seat memory buttons and at least one tire pressure monitor, so the tire pressure light stays on. Sun roof. Ventus V12 tires only have about 6k miles on them, I like these better than Potenza, last set I got 40k miles on and grip and perform well. Rotors squeak a bit, should be replaced with next brake replacement. Happens every 5 or 6 years, car has large performance brakes, new rotors are cheaper than resurfacing these days unless you can do yourself. The passenger mirror cover was replaced and I did not have it painted to match, it’s not terrible looking see photos.

The Carfax report shows 3 owners, this is not the case. I moved for work for one year out of state and took my beloved car with me, and registered it there, then cam back to L.A. and re-registered here, hence three registrations, they were all me. There is also one accident reported which happened many years ago, a minor rear-end at a light and only affected the rear bumper cover, no damage to the car.
