VAN SOLD AS IS — CANNOT CURRENTLY BE DRIVEN, BUYER WILL NEED TO TOW

This high-top 2002 Chevrolet Express 2500 has served me well as a live-in and camping van over the past few years. It has ample space and features that make it a great choice for anyone looking to embrace van life but will require some repairs before it can hit the road again.

The Good

  • Reliable 5.7L V8 engine: The engine has been dependable, with a good chance of lasting up to 300,000 miles, according to my mechanic.
  • Solar panels: Equipped with functioning solar panels and a house battery that provides DC outlets and house lights.
  • Living Space: The couch conveniently converts into a full-size bed, maximizing the van’s utility.
  • Built-in Sink: Though the mechanical pump isn’t currently working, it can be upgraded to a simple foot pump to make it functional again.
  • All-terrain Tires: Perfect for adventures off the beaten path.
  • Storage Solutions: Built-in shelves and overhead compartments provide ample storage for all your van life essentials.
  • Current Emissions Compliance: The van has been smogged and is legal until September 2026.
  • Functional AC, Heat, and Radio: Equipped with climate control and entertainment options that worked flawlessly at the last use.

The Not-So-Good

Every used vehicle comes with its own set of challenges, and this one is no exception:

  • Estimated Repairs: A mechanic has estimated about $3000 of repairs, including:
    • Replacement of the starter, battery, and catalytic converter.
    • New power steering (hydra boost) hose.

Some Quirks

While not deal-breakers, here are some quirks to note:

  • Gauge Inaccuracies: The oil and fuel gauges are not reliable, which is common for older Chevy/GMC models. Filling up every 200 miles, however, can help manage this issue.
  • Minor Body Damage: There is a scratch and small dent on the side door, a slightly dented front bumper, and some flaking paint on the hood. Touch-up paint is available for repairs.
  • Sink Wiring: The wiring to the sink has become disconnected, which is a simple fix but will require some paneling removal for access.

Next Steps

Most of the maintenance on this van has been done at Campbell’s Automotive in La Crescenta. I can provide work records if desired and recommend having it towed there for repairs if you don’t already have a trusted mechanic. Additionally, I can suggest a local electrician for any electrical repairs needed. The van is currently parked in a private driveway and registered as Planned Non-Operation; the buyer will need to take care of re-registration.

Viewing and Payment

Appointments for viewing are available from 10 AM to 2 PM on the weekend of September 6th and 7th. I have the vehicle title ready and will provide an As-Is Bill of Sale upon purchase. Cash is preferred, but I will accept a cashier’s check with bank confirmation. Please reach out with any questions—serious offers and inquiries only!

VAN SOLD AS IS — CANNOT CURRENTLY BE DRIVEN, BUYER WILL NEED TO TOW

This high-top (you can stand up in it!) 2002 Chevrolet Express 2500 has served me well as a live-in and camping van over the past few years, but I’m no longer able to give it the love and attention it needs.

The good:
• Reliable 5.7L V8 engine—my mechanic is confident it will last until at least 300,000 miles
• Solar panels and working house battery with DC outlets and house lights
• Couch that converts into a full size bed
• Built in sink — mechanical pump no longer works but could be replaced with a galley foot pump
• All-terrain tires
• Built in shelves and overhead storage
• Smogged until September 2026
• A/C, heat, and radio all worked great as of last use

The not-so-good:
• Needs about $3000 worth of repairs per my mechanic’s last estimate:
– starter, battery, and catalytic converter need to be replaced
– needs a new power steering (hydra boost) hose

Some quirks:
• Oil and fuel gauges are not accurate (common with older Chevy/GMCs, does not affect driving, I just fill up every 200 miles or so)
• Minor body damage — scratch and small dent in side door (pictured), front bumper slightly dented and some paint is flaking off the hood (also pictured) (I have white Rustoleum for paint repairs)
• Wiring to the sink got disconnected somehow—I haven’t needed it, but if you want to fix it you will need to remove some of the inside paneling to get to the wires

Most of the work on the van since I’ve owned it has been done at Campbell’s Automotive in La Crescenta—have work records if desired. Recommend it to be towed there as well if you don’t have a local mechanic that you trust already. I can also recommend a local electrician for any desired electrical repairs. Currently parked in a private driveway and registered as Planned Non-Operation, buyer will need to re-register as operational.

Appointments to view are available from 10-2 pm Saturday 9/6 and Sunday 9/7. Vehicle title in hand, As-Is Bill of Sale will be provided. Cash preferred, cashier’s check accepted with bank confirmation. Please reach out with any questions—serious offers and inquiries only!
