The Unique Joy of Classic Car Ownership
Owning a classic car is not just about having a vehicle; it’s about embracing a piece of history. Today, we’re talking about a particularly rare gem—a classic 1967 Mercedes 300 SEL that stands out for its charm and character. After years of joy and countless memories, it’s time for someone else to embark on the thrilling journey of ownership.
Why I’m Selling This Rare Classic
As a classic car enthusiast and owner, I find joy in the preservation and enjoyment of unique vehicles. I’ve had this classic since March 2020. With a clean California title in hand and currently registered, it’s ready to hit the road. Unfortunately, the time has come for me to let go of this magnificent piece as I manage multiple cars and need to focus my efforts.
A Brief History of the Car
This particular 1967 Mercedes 300 SEL holds immense sentimental value. I purchased this vehicle from a gentleman whose father had cherished it before passing away. It had been in storage for many years, showcasing a fascinating backstory that enriches its allure. With an engine boasting a 3.5L inline-6 and a mere 25,749 kilometers on the odometer, this classic is sure to please car aficionados and collectors alike.
Condition and Quality
The car is in excellent condition for its age. While it’s not a new vehicle, it boasts a shiny repaint in what appears to be its original color. Importantly, there are no rust issues, and it hasn’t been filled with bondo, making this vehicle a rare find in today’s market.
Extensive Repairs and Upgrades
Since taking ownership, I’ve invested over $60,000 into the car, including a significant $39,000 for various repairs conducted by a specialist shop in Santa Paula, CA. Here’s a brief overview of the repairs and services done:
- Rebuilt generator
- Valve cover gasket replaced
- Oil and filter change
- Four new tires and balancing
- Replaced shift bushings
- Wiring system upgraded
- Front and rear airbag suspension replaced
- Suspension height control valves and air hoses replaced
- Replaced rear trailing arm
- Front subframe and sway bar mounts replaced
- New steering damper installed
- Clutch and ignition adjustments
- Numerous other components replaced or repaired
Potential Drawbacks
While the vehicle is in great shape, it’s important to note a couple of cons. The air conditioning unit is not installed, but I do have the necessary parts. Additionally, the heater and fan are not operational. However, I’ve only driven the car on sunny days, so I haven’t prioritized these repairs.
Performance and Reliability
This 1967 Mercedes 300 SEL runs incredibly strong. The engine sounds great with no strange noises or smoke on cold starts, ensuring reliability. Even after sitting for extended periods, it starts right up, making it a dependable classic to own and enjoy.
Pricing and Availability
I am asking for $50,000 or best offer. Please note, I am not interested in trades. The rarity and unique specifications of this car make it a truly remarkable find. It’s a 4-speed manual with an exceptional color combination—an opportunity you won’t easily find elsewhere.
