Original California 1967 Convertible Camaro
Imagine the open road, the wind in your hair, and the roar of a beautifully restored 1967 Camaro Convertible. This car has an unparalleled history, purchased by my parents from the original owner in 1984 when it had a mere 97,000 miles. It has been meticulously cared for, ensuring that it remains a stunning piece of American automotive history.
Restoration and Upgrades
In 1988, a frame-on restoration was undertaken with a focus on maintaining the vehicle’s original charm while enhancing its performance. At an odometer reading of 122,600 miles, my parents opted for a new crate 350 engine, replacing the original 327 due to bad rings. This engine is equipped with state-of-the-art components to boost its efficiency and performance:
- Comp Cams RV cam
- Comp Cams Lifters
- Hardened push rods
- 228 valve springs and retainers
- MSD 6 box
- Pointless distributor
- Edelbrock manifold and carburetor
- Long tube headers with cutouts
In tandem, a new Art Carr 350 transmission with a shift kit and a TCI 1500 stall converter were installed, both having just over 7,000 miles of usage. This combination not only enhances the driving experience but also ensures reliability for years to come.
Performance and Specifications
The Camaro boasts a robust 373 posi 12 bolt rear end with only 10,000 miles. Its braking system was recently overhauled, resulting in new front bearings, rotors, calipers, pads, and a master cylinder, all of which contribute to a safe and enjoyable driving experience. The car also features:
- Front disc brakes from a 1971 Camaro
- Close ratio power steering
- New KYB gas shocks up front
- Flowmaster exhaust
Aesthetics and Condition
This 1967 Convertible Camaro was originally painted Butternut yellow with a stylish black bee stripe. However, a stunning blue paint job completed in 2009 has not only enhanced its aesthetic appeal but has also aged beautifully, with only some minor checking in the clear coat on the trunk. A quote of $1,000 was provided to rectify this, ensuring the car can shine as brightly as it did on the day it was painted.
Interior Details
The interior remains in exceptional condition, with the sole modification being a B&M floor shifter. It has been exceptionally well-maintained; there is zero rust, as the car has been kept in a garage its entire life. It has never been washed with a hose or exposed to the rain, preserving its integrity:
- Standard fan with an electric fan
- Large transmission cooler
This 1967 Convertible Camaro runs and drives better than new, having been tested over long distances without any issues.
Why Buy This Classic Car?
This isn’t just a car; it’s a piece of history that has been well cared for and upgraded for performance. Despite the minor cosmetic issue, this classic Camaro offers everything you could want in a vintage vehicle, from driving enjoyment to show-stopping aesthetics. It has garnered numerous trophies, emphasizing its appeal but they will not go with the sale of the vehicle. I am reluctantly parting with this beauty as I have other projects that demand my attention and time.
