For Sale: 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo

Are you in the market for a classic car that combines style, performance, and a rich history? Look no further than this 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo. I’ve owned this beauty for about five years and have driven it regularly. As the second owner, I can assure you that this car has a story to tell.

A Brief History of the MR2

The first owner bought the car new in Marin back in 1991 and daily drove it for almost 30 years. Her love for this vehicle is evident, and she only decided to sell it when she could no longer physically drive it. This gives the car a unique and sentimental value, making it a true collector’s item.

Performance and Engine Details

Before I purchased the vehicle, both the engine and transmission were rebuilt. It runs strong and has never had any issues getting me from A to B. The chassis has about 367k miles, but I’ve only put less than 10k miles on the new engine and transmission. I typically drive about 10 miles a day for work and enjoy taking it out for dinner on the weekends.

Currently, the registration is up-to-date, and it passed smog in November 2024. So, you can drive it with peace of mind knowing the paperwork is all sorted!

Exterior and Interior Condition

The interior of the car is in excellent condition, and while the exterior has some minor dents, the original paint is still quite good. I’ve taken care of various repairs and have even installed a few tasteful modifications. About 90% of the car is stock, perfect for enthusiasts who appreciate its original geometry.

Repairs and Modifications

Here’s a quick list of repairs I’ve conducted:

  • Replaced the speedometer gear in the transmission.
  • New brake master cylinder and rear passenger caliper.
  • Initiated repairs on the front and rear bumpers, including pulling dents and filling them.
  • Dent pulling and paint touch-ups in various spots.

In terms of modifications:

  • Installed coilovers and new wheels (original shocks and coils are still available).
  • Added an aftermarket steering wheel and shift knob (the original steering wheel is included).
  • Custom fabric applied over the door panels, T-top covers, and sun visors.

Areas for Improvement

Like any classic car, there are a few areas that need work:

  • Some electrical components in the cabin do not function properly, such as the power mirrors and central locking system.
  • The A/C requires a recharge, but the blower works.
  • The original radio functions, but the speakers may not provide the quality you desire.
  • The T-tops leaked initially, but after using a rubber seal rehydrator, they are now much improved with only a minor drip during heavy rain.

A Passionate Driver’s Perspective

I never felt the need to fix all of these minor concerns. This vehicle is an absolute blast to drive! Since the day I bought it, I’ve taken it out almost every day. Unfortunately, I’m selling this car only to help my partner and I save for when we start a family.

A Unique Opportunity

This 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo is rare and would serve as an excellent candidate for restoration. It wouldn’t take much to return it to full stock form, making it an enticing purchase for enthusiasts or those looking to enter the classic car community.

I’m selling my 1991 Toyota MR2 Turbo. I’ve had it for about five years and driven it regularly in my ownership. I am the second owner of this car. The first owner bought it new in 1991 in Marin and daily drove it for almost 30 years. She loved the car so much that she only decided to sell it once she wasn’t physically strong enough to drive it anymore.

Right before I bought it the engine and transmission were both rebuilt. It runs strong and has never had any problems getting me from A to B. The chassis has about 367k but I’ve put less than 10k miles on the new engine and transmission. (I drive to work and back about 10 miles a day 4-5 days a week and run errands/ drive out to dinner on the weekends.)
Registration is up to date and passed smog in November 2024.

The interior is in very good condition and the exterior has some minor dents but the original paint is in pretty good shape.
I’ve fixed the few things that have broken and installed a couple tasteful mods. The car is about 90% stock!

Repairs I’ve done:
-The speedometer gear in the transmission was replaced
-The brake master cylinder and rear passenger caliper were replaced.
– the front and rear bumpers were in bad shape so I started ongoing processes of pulling dents and filling them.
– dent pulling and paint touch ups in various spots

Mods:
-Coilovers and wheels were added. I still have the original shocks and coils.
– aftermarket steering wheel and shift knob
(I still have the original steering wheel)
– I added some custom fabric over the door panels, t top covers, and sun visors.

Things that need work:
There are a few electrical things in the cabin that do not work, such as the power mirrors and central locking system. The a/c needs a recharge but the blower works! The original radio works too but the speakers do not sound very good.
The t tops leaked a lot when I first got the car but using a rubber seal rehydrator the seals are much better now and have the slightest drip in heavy rain.

I never really felt the need to fix all of these minor things. The car is a blast to drive and I’ve driven it almost every day since the day I bought it.

I never intended to sell this car and am only doing so to help my partner and I save up for when we have a family. Come take it for a spin and make me an offer. This car is very rare and this one would be a great candidate for a restoration. It would not take much at all to return it to full stock form.
