Vehicle was purchased in 2008 from a Neuroscience group as a fundraiser/donation. Shortly after purchase, I had it gone over with a fine tooth comb at Bus Cafe in Santa Cruz. They installed new fuel injectors, fuel lines, flushed fluids, etc. In 2009, I did a new clutch, shift linkage, bushings and shift lever. I parked this in my garage in San Francisco in 2010 and just pulled it out. I had it towed to Tassi nearby, had him do a top end rebuild and replace fluids and battery. I also put four nearly new GoWesty wheels with General tires. It has a spare wheel under the back, and also a full sized spare tire. I was immediately impressed with how tight this vehicle handles for 39 year old vehicle. They don’t make them like this anymore, not even the German

This vehicle has some pretty uniform surface rust all over. Nothing pitting, nothing requiring too much detail as far as I can tell. I asked 3 different VW guys, and they all said the rust is very minor. Cracks in interior plastic, stereo has been removed. Speakers were functioning when last tested. This is a weekender, so the bed lays flat and there is a table. This vehicle can be taken and driven as is, or is the perfect platform for building your dream rig. Will need front brakes in the near future. The odometer quit on me at 130k. I took a trip to the Oregon border(381 miles, so say 1k miles round trip) and one more trip to San Diego(500 Miles, so let’s say 1200 miles). I have driven locally less than 200 miles since getting it moving again, just in case a California smog is needed. It does not smoke. It runs a little rough until it warms up, maybe 2-3 minutes or so. Fuel gauge works until it’s about 2/3rds full, then will not register any higher.

Shifting is typical for a Vanagon, meaning it takes some getting used to. Not rough, just different from cars today. Again, this is 39 years old. Grabbing reverse is a push down and front left. Granny gear is down and back left. Granny gear will crawl up just about anything. Again, shift linkage, bushings, boot, lever and knob was all replaced before parking it when I had the clutch done. I engaged the locker last week. Green light comes on, push it in to disengage. Takes about 60-70′ backing straight up to disengage the axle.

The locks are a bit mismatched. I had keys made for the driver side and sliding rear. They were not able to match the tailgate. There was an issue with the sliding door closing and latching. I was cleaning it out for pictures and noticed there was sand packed in the channel. Cleaned it out and it seems to like that much better.

I have the original manual and an aftermarket one as well. Have three boxes of extra parts that come with it. I have most of my maintenance records, and even some from the previous owner.

Pastel curtains, in case you want to sell ice cream or candy. Front windows ARE TINTED, if you live in a place that cares. Helps keep the temps in check. Speaking of that, I was told all the AC equipment is there. I am not a mechanic, I can’t vouch for that.
