CARFAX REPORT AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST (FOR SERIOUS BUYERS ONLY)
We are selling our small, AWD, 2005 Infiniti G35x car in preparation for a move overseas. The previous owner worked at the library and drove it occasionally from 2009 (when she bought the car) to 2023 (when she sold the car to us) which is why the car only has 128,500 km today. My spouse and I are the third owners of this car. We have used it for the past year as a shared family car / daily driver. We paid P. Larsen Auto Service in North Vancouver to do a pre-purchase multi-point inspection on July 19, 2023 and they recommended going forward with purchasing and using the car while noting that the driver and front passenger windows needed to be ‘reset’ and the air conditioning belt should be replaced. We had both windows reset and both belts replaced. Additionally, since purchasing the car we have replaced the following:
Main Air Filter (Routine Maintenance)
Cabin Air Filter (Routine Maintenance)
Spark Plugs and Coil Packs (Routine Maintenance)
Oil Change x 2 (Routine Maintenance)
Left Control Arm (OEM Part which replaced a cheap aftermarket part a previous owner had installed)
CAM Shaft Sensors x 2 and CRANKSHAFT Sensor x 1 (Needed Replacement)
Air Conditioning Belt (Routine Maintenance)
Alternator Belt (Routine Maintenance)
Rear License Plate Bracket (Original Bracket Needed to Be Replaced in order to Affix the License Plate Properly)
Side Marker Light Bulb (Routine Maintenance)
Power Steering Cooler Return Hose (Original hose developed a leak)
Mechanical Condition
The car is in good mechanical condition. As noted above, we have used the car as a daily driver / family car and it has been very safe and reliable transportation for us. Additionally, we drove it to Eugene, Oregon last October (2023) and we drove it to Lake Louise in early August 2024 and had no problems.
Known Issues
Dashboard Indicators. Occasionally, various dashboard indicators (e.g. emergency brake indicator, tire pressure indicator, battery indicator) will light up randomly. Lightly tapping the top of the dashboard can cause the indicators to turn back off. Alternatively, occasionally, various dashboard indicators (e.g. left turn signal, cruise control SET indicator) will not light up. Finally, the fuel gauge does not accurately reflect the amount of fuel in the tank. These issues occur because the printed circuit board that controls the dashboard indicators and gauges needs to have various resistors resoldered. We have not had the time to ask a mechanic to perform this repair and have not had any problems with using the dashboard ‘as is.’
Key fob
One key fob works well. It features the intelligent key system which means that it stays in your pocket and you tap a button to lock and unlock the car. When you get in the car, you simply turn the starting knob without inserting the key. When the battery in the fob is low, it can take multiple button clicks to set the alarm, so you should change the battery. The other key fob does not have the Intelligent Key features programmed into it. We did not feel like paying the dealer to program the fob properly. There is a hidden key in each fob. The hidden key is chipped. This means that if your fob battery runs out, you can insert the hidden key into the knob and the car will recognize the key and allow you to turn the knob and start the car in the “traditional” way.
Chinks in the Armor
The windshield has a few rock dings. The driver side of the car has a few shopping cart dents and the rear bumper has a few scratches. We feel they add character to the car, and, consequently, we have avoided having them repaired.
Driver-side Air Conditioning Vent Rattle Sound between 75 and 85 kph. The vent makes a rattling sound when you drive between 75 and 85 kph. The easiest way to avoid the rattling sound is to drive faster or slower than the abovementioned speeds. You can also adjust the vent and it stops rattling for a while.
Oil
You need to check the oil level every month, and, depending on how many kilometers you drive, you will need to add about 0.5 liter of oil every one or two months. In 2005 the VQ35DE engine was used in the following models: Infiniti G35, Nissan 350Z, Nissan Maxima, Nissan Altima, Nissan Pathfinder, and Nissan Frontier. This need to add oil is a known issue for this engine family and the process of adding oil is not difficult.
