Beautifully restored 1991 VW Vanagon GL Westfalia with a Ford (2001) engine conversion. We spent literally hundreds of hours restoring this vehicle over the winter including removing all rust, body work, and a fresh paint job. Not to mention rebuilding the engine in 2023. It can’t be put into words easily, but this van drives really well.
If you’re familiar with these vans, this one already has al lot of the “must have” enhancements:
• Bostig engine conversion (2001 Ford Focus) (approx +180k/km on engine — and the body + transmission have 286k/km): easy to work on, easy to get parts, more power than the stock engine, and infinitely more reliability.
Now that the motor has been rebuilt, it only has approximately 3,000 km on a new head gasket, timing belt, water pump, and thermostat. We also re-sealed the oil pan.
• 16 inch rims with 215/65 r16 Michelin x-ice tires
• GoWesty front floor mats
• Stainless steel coolant pipes
• LED dash light conversion
• H4 headlight upgrade
• Side door bearings replaced. It glides smoooooooth.
• New window seals
• New GoWesty water & electric outlets
It also has a number of really nice features:
• Air conditioning

• Recently added a new throttle cable, and a new idle air controller – van idles rock solid
Kitchen-wise, the stove and sink work great. The fridge is abysmal – we’ve been using a portable (not included).
This van is owned by Honest Camper, a tremendous 5-star google rated local camper van rental company that has been in business for +7yrs. We bought this in early 2023, fixed it up a ton, and rented it a few times this summer as a back-up van (it did a trip to Banff and a trip to Tofino), but mostly it has been a restoration project.
