THE GOOD:
This Van was appraised at $15000 in 2022. This *Air Cooled* 1980 Vanagon was a Daily Driver up until mid Oct. 2024. It has new tires, new spare with all 4 hub caps, a stainless steel exhaust system, “Weekender Interior” – includes: folding picnic table, folding Z Bed, jump seat & cup holders, Bluetooth Stereo & cup holder – Also has LED headlights.
THE BAD:
A piston ring failed. The Van will start & run, but I wouldn’t recommend it. It is technically able to run on 3 & a third cylinders. Due to the piston ring failure, fuel runs into the crank case & then the exhaust system causing it to stall until the fuel drains out, then you can do it again (1/4 mile max distance before stalling).
My Mechanic said it needs a rebuild or new engine.
This was a great Van, I have all the receipts, Clean Title & appraisal paperwork. Maybe you want to rebuild the engine? Maybe you want to convert it to a water cooled engine? Maybe a Subaru conversion? Maybe an Air BnB?
