This rare gem, affectionately referred to as “Pizza,” not only promises adventure but also encompasses the benefits of obtaining financing through AllCreditAuto.Loan.
Why Choose a Manual Jeep Grand Cherokee?
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has always been synonymous with reliability and ruggedness. The 1997 model features Jeep’s renowned 4.0L inline 6-cylinder engine, known for its longevity, often surpassing 300,000 miles if maintained well. Unlike many of its contemporaries that are hampered by automatic transmission failures, this specific model stands out thanks to a manual transmission swap. The AX-15 manual coupled with the NP231 transfer case allows for an exhilarating driving experience, especially in off-road conditions.

Hi all,
It is a sad day, I’m selling my beloved Pizza, a rare ZJ grand cherokee with a swapped manual transmission. This has been a great car, but I no longer need her as I live in the city. This Cherokee has Jeep’s most reliable engine ever made, the 4.0l inline 6 cylinder, known to go 300-400k miles. A lot of this generation’s grand cherokees however suffer from failures from their automatic transmission. Thus why I swapped in an AX-15 manual (great transmission), paired to the NP231 transfer case for 4wd to make the ultimate overlanding combo. She is rough around the edges, but has really good bones. This car still needs a couple of things, but I’ll list everything below
Cons:
Two rust spots in the rear (I’ve included in the photos) – No real rust at all on underbody frame, it is really clean.
Missing bolt on transmission case
Cosmetic stuff: Crack on windshield + headliner sagging
Has mud tires so not great at highway speeds
Leak from rear differential seal
Pros:
AX15 manual transmission with new Luk Clutch
All new suspension components (upper/lower control arms, track bars, tie rods, ball joints)
All fluids swapped with the best synthetic oils & gear lubes (Diffs, Transmission, Transfer case, Brake fluid bleeding, Engine Oil + Wix filter)
New spark plugs
Ported head + new exhaust header (this thing pulls!)
New water pump, thermostat, radiator, and coolant
Smogged recently and registration up to date! This may be one of the only manual swapped grand cherokee’s that is smog
Full point inspection + parts installed at The Garage SF. I have the receipts
New tires with less than 5k miles
Feel free to text/email with any questions.
